THIS IS HOW WE DO BAPTISM!
We don't just do Baptism at Crossover;
We Celebrate Baptism at Crossover!
It's A Party!
Baptism is for every person that believes in Christ. As soon as you have received Christ into your life, you can be baptized. There is no need to wait and no reason to delay. Scripture tells us, “Those who believed and accepted His message were baptized that day” (Acts 2:41). At Crossover, we follow Jesus’ example of Baptism- by immersion. Jesus was baptized in this way, as well as all the baptisms in the Bible. Immersion best symbolizes the burial and resurrection that Jesus went through for you and me. As a Christian, It illustrates your new life in Him. Colossians 2:12 explains it this way: “For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism, you were also raised with Christ.” You can also read Romans chapter 6 for a detailed explanation of what baptism is and what it represents.
Baptism does not make you a believer, it demonstrates that you are a believer. Baptism will not “save” you, your faith in Christ does that. Think of it as a wedding ring-an outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart.
Not only do we baptize to follow the example set by Jesus, but also because He commands us in Matthew 28:19-20. “ Jesus said, ‘go then to all the people everywhere and make them my disciples, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.”’ We refer to this passage as the Great Commission to all His believers.
At Crossover, we encourage families to be baptized together, however, we realize that it is not wise to wait to be baptized until other family members accept Christ because this delays your obedience to Christ. Also, children should be old enough to express personal faith in Christ and understand the true meaning of baptism before we baptize them and not pressure them into something they may not fully understand.
Even if you’ve been baptized before, but you strayed away from God and would like to recommit your life to God, you may be baptized again. Scripture does not teach against that. We will not discourage you from wanting to be baptized again, as long as you do not make it a pattern of behavior!
If you believe and are willing to obey His Word, then we invite you to be baptized with other believers and publicly demonstrate your commitment to Christ. Bring a change of clothes, a towel, and a plastic bag for your wet clothes. Ladies should wear a dark t-shirt and shorts. You may wear your swimsuit under your dark clothing. Men may wear a swimsuit or shorts and a t-shirt. We want the focus to be on your expression of faith, not what you wear or don’t wear! Also, we encourage you to invite your family and friends to this special day as you share it with your Crossover family. We have baptized over 1,400 people and each time it is a BIG CELEBRATION!
